Copyediting

Copyediting prepares your document for publication by making sure it is clear, correct, coherent, and consistent. A light copy edit includes the following:

  • grammar and syntax

  • word choice and usage

  • punctuation

  • mechanical consistency

  • adherence to a style guide

  • formatting

  • complete citations and bibliography

Deep Editing

Deep editing takes a big-picture view of your document.

A structural edit addresses plot, character, and pacing for fiction. For nonfiction, it includes organization, chronology, concision, and syntax, focusing on the page and paragraph level.

My constructive feedback is based on your project goals—whether you’re writing a personal statement, memoir, or novel.

I will return your MS Word or Google Docs document with track changes turned on, so you can see every change and choose to accept or reject.

I will also include queries in the document margins, addressing issues you may want to revisit or asking clarifying questions.

I will focus on making your document stronger, but in the end, your writing will still sound like you.

Manuscript Evaluation

For larger projects (full-length manuscripts, eBooks, white papers, website copy). The manuscript evaluation, a 10- to 20-page report, comes with structural editing.

I start with a discussion and/or questionnaire to get to know your goals, process, and writing history. Then I spend time with your manuscript: reading, thinking, writing your evaluation.

The evaluation reflects your focus and includes plot, structure, setting, character, chronology, pacing, scenes, dialogue, voice, and theme.

It provides analysis to help fulfill your goals, ignite your creativity, and bring out the best version of your story.

Copywriting

Copywriting includes engaging and results-driven branded content to support your marketing strategy, such as website copy, brochures, press releases, email campaigns, newsletters, white papers, and more.

Step up your content with an in-house style guide, which includes choices such as capitalization, hyphens, and the (much contested!) serial comma.

A style guide, used by your writing and marketing teams, ensures that every piece of content your clients read is consist, clear, and brand specific.

Pricing

My fee depends on word count, the complexity of the text, the type and level of intervention you ask for, and how quickly you need it delivered.

When we discuss your project, I will ask questions to determine your needs and for a sample of the text to determine the price.

Depending on the boundaries of the work, I will suggest a per project or per hour rate.

I will be happy to work within your budget to provide the best possible results.
